My journey began at Gracious Steps School, where I received the educational foundation that would shape the path I am on today. Growing up, continuing my education was not always easy, and meeting school fees and other educational needs presented challenges along the way.
During my time at Gracious Steps, the school did more than provide me with an education. Through the support of the school community and well-wishers, Gracious Steps assisted me in raising school fees and other donations that helped me continue my education.
That support made a meaningful difference in my life. It reminded me that sometimes a child’s journey forward depends not only on their determination, but also on people who are willing to stand with them and believe in their potential.
For me, Gracious Steps was not simply where I went to school. It was a community that helped me take important steps towards my future.
The Next Step: Kiambu High School
After completing my education at Gracious Steps, I joined Kiambu High School for my secondary education.
Moving to the next stage of my education brought new opportunities, but the journey continued to require commitment, hard work, and support. The foundation I had received at Gracious Steps helped prepare me for the challenges and responsibilities of secondary school.
I carried with me the lessons I had learned about discipline, perseverance, and the importance of making the most of every opportunity.
As I progressed through secondary school, my interest in technology continued to grow. I became increasingly interested in how computers and digital systems could be used to solve problems and create new possibilities.
Pursuing a Future in Information Technology
After completing secondary school, I joined Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), where I pursued a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology.
University opened a new chapter in my journey. It gave me the opportunity to develop my knowledge of technology, explore different areas of IT, and build the skills required for a career in the industry.
The journey from a classroom at Gracious Steps to university was one built step by step. Each stage of my education prepared me for the next, and I continued learning, adapting, and working towards my goals.
My interest in technology eventually led me towards software development, where I found an opportunity to combine technical knowledge with creativity and problem-solving.
Building a Career in Technology
Today, I work at Wanjutec Solutions as a Software Developer.
My role gives me the opportunity to develop digital solutions, solve problems, and continue learning in an industry that is constantly evolving. Every project presents a new challenge and an opportunity to improve my skills.
Looking back, I can see how important every stage of my educational journey has been.
From my early years at Gracious Steps School, to Kiambu High School, to earning my degree at JKUAT, each step helped bring me closer to where I am today.
But I also remember the people and support that helped make those steps possible.
Where It All Began
My story is a reminder that support can have an impact far beyond the moment it is given.
The assistance I received while at Gracious Steps helped me continue my educational journey at a time when financial challenges could have become a barrier. The support in raising school fees and receiving other donations gave me opportunities to keep moving forward.
Today, as a Software Developer, I can look back and recognise that my journey into technology did not begin with my first line of code or my first day at university.
It began years earlier, in a classroom at Gracious Steps School, with an opportunity to learn and with people who believed that my future was worth supporting.
I am proud to be part of the Gracious Steps alumni community, and I hope my journey encourages every learner facing challenges today to keep believing in what is possible.
Your starting point does not have to define your destination.
Sometimes, all it takes is an opportunity, a helping hand, and the determination to take the next step
